Lesson 5: AI for everyday life
Your free 24/7 helper for the boring stuff.
๐งธ The simple picture
Think of AI like a really good kitchen gadget. A food processor won't cook dinner for you, but it chops onions in seconds so you can focus on the fun part. AI works the same way: it handles the chopping (drafts, lists, summaries), and you stay the chef who decides what's good.
๐ Key ideas
- Writing: draft emails, thank-you notes, complaint letters, or social posts. Then edit them so they sound like you.
- Planning: weekly meal plans with a grocery list, trip itineraries, workout schedules, or a party checklist.
- Understanding: paste a confusing letter or terms of service and ask, "Explain this simply. What do I need to do?" (Remove private info first. More on that in Lesson 6.)
- Learning: ask it to quiz you, explain a topic like you're 10, or teach you a new skill step by step.
- Photos and voice: many apps let you snap a picture (a plant, a recipe, a menu in another language) and ask about it, or talk out loud instead of typing.
๐ ๏ธ Try it (2 minutes)
Make this week's meal plan. Paste this into a chatbot and fill in the blanks:
Make me a simple 5-day dinner plan for [number] people. We like [foods] and avoid [foods]. Each meal should take under [minutes] minutes. Then give me one combined grocery list grouped by store section.Ask follow-ups like "swap Tuesday for something cheaper."
